Backcountry Utah discusses ethics, responsibilities, and opportunities. Host, Brian Brinkerhoff, discusses outdoor topics in a casual, around-the-campfire atmosphere, that many members of our target audience enjoy.

Each program covers a wide range of topics covering hunting to fishing, hiking to mountain biking, hang gliding to scuba diving and the programming caters to an audience ranging from beginners to experts. Each program is filled with tips and ideas for outdoor recreationists.

Getaways and escapes discussed on the program range from the popular sites along the Wasatch Front to the forgotten, remote corners of the state. The State of Utah is filled with many opportunities. It is our hope to instill an appreciation of our vast, but not unlimited outdoor resources.

Backcountry Utah originally began as Backcountry Magazine-- Utah's Outdoor Radio Magazine, as part of the Sounds of Sunday on AM 960 KFMY. The original crew pictured above featured regular segments including the "Fly of the Week," "Harry's Outdoor Tips," Becky's Outdoor Cooking Segment, among others.

After about a year, station ownership changed and the program was moved to the Saturday Morning lineup under the original call letters-- AM 960 KOVO.  After ownership changed again, the Backcountry Magazine became Backcountry Utah and moved to Salt Lake City where the Weekend Edition currently airs on AM 630 KTKK.

Drivetime Segments began airing on AM 1340 KTMP and KCYN 97.1 FM in Moab in 2007. KOAL picked up the program shortly thereafter.
